For Gabriel’s Challenge Volunteers
Show up. Be safe. Lead with presence, not provision.
Before You Go Out:
Adopt a Block Guidelines:
Show up. Be safe. Lead with presence, and positivity, not provision.
Please don’t give money or items. Even small amounts can unintentionally support substance use. Never give people rides. You’re not there to fix or change anyone.
Always go with others, never alone. Be aware, not afraid – Stay alert to your surroundings.
Help keep the area clean but never pick up trash by hand. Wear gloves and/or use grabber tool.
Do not touch medicine of any kind – This includes pills, capsules, or anything that looks like candy. Do not pick up melted or burnt items – This includes foil, glass, or pen parts with residue. Avoid needles, powders, or crushed substances – Leave them and report to 311 or city services.
Respect boundaries – Not everyone is ready to connect. That’s okay.
Give space to anyone in distress – Pacing, yelling, or agitation may be signs they need space, not conversation. Don’t intervene in conflicts – Call for help if something feels unsafe.
Clean up after you clean up. Wash your hands and change clothes when you get home.
